T WELCOME his edition of florida.HIGH.TECH marks a major shift in the Florida High Tech Corridor Council's role as a publisher. The 2012 magazine has both a print and a digital edition … enabling us to offer additional content such as video interviews, and to update the magazine mid-year. We're obviously very excited by this new venture—and grateful to many of our sponsors whose advertisements this year include added video content. I encourage you to explore the digital version found on our website at www.FloridaHighTech.com and see what's in store. You'll see a video link on stories, as well as ads from EA, Lockheed Martin, UCF, USF, UF and Moffitt Cancer Center. Special thanks to these supporters for helping us move into the next generation of publications. Our magazine is full of intriguing stories as usual. I am a big fan of our Faces of Technology feature that this year highlights 19 pioneers in their various fields. They are the real power of Florida's High Tech Corridor … technologists with a dream. Let me thank our friend, Chris Steinocher, president and CEO of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, who we credit with the original idea. The Florida High Tech Corridor Council's Matching Grants Research Program is a signature effort for our organization and has resulted in thousands of students at our three universities, the University of Central Florida, the University of South Florida and the University of Florida, getting not only a head start on their career ambitions, but real-world experience that will serve them forever. We reached out for this edition of florida.HIGH.TECH and talked to some of those current and former student researchers who are now playing key roles in Florida's tech scene, and they have great memories of the work they did on their student projects working with Corridor companies. If you're old enough to remember some of the early days of science fiction as I do, you'll no doubt find our story on future technologies both fun and educational. Things we only dreamed of when I was a lad are now commonplace, but what lies ahead is nothing short of incredible … and the world will one day be talking about technologies that had their genesis right here in our Corridor. Take a look through our crystal ball. I hope you enjoy the read. Best regards, FROM THE PUBLISHER Randy Berridge, President Florida High Tech Corridor Council florida.HIGH.TECH 2012 05
