tobaccoasia 33 At British American Tobacco, we are looking more closely at the science surrounding tobacco harm reduction. "But we have been very careful to not completely remove the entire expe- rience [that smoking a shisha involves]. We have preserved it as much as possible," assured Jalloul, who, together with a partner, spent over two years researching and developing the ingenious inven- tion, potentially bound to shake up how shishas are savored in the future. "It's all in the head"… The Shishapresso system – patented in over 40 countries worldwide – consists of basically two components, a specially developed, glazed, and re- useable ceramic head, and a sealed, disposable alu- minum capsule that contains tobacco and unique agitators designed to break it up (and thus provide for its required "fluffiness") when the capsule is subjected to a good shake. Just like the capsule it- self, the agitators are likewise manufactured from 100% refined aluminum, as the metal is considered neutral and won't negatively alter the tobacco taste. Peeling off the capsule's top seal reveals a series of small holes that ensure optimal air circulation. Re- moving the bottom double seal also shows a series of perforations, through which eventually the to- bacco smoke is drawn in the shisha device proper. "But it's in the ceramic head where the true magic happens," explained Jalloul during a dem- onstration. He inserted the capsule into the head, into which it snuggly clicked thanks to several notches in the head and corresponding grooves in the capsule. The ceramic head fits any shisha mod- el and replaces the traditional fired-clay head at the top, into which the loose tobacco would normally be placed. "One needs to buy our patented, re- usable head only once and it will keep a lifetime. The three simple steps of preparing the Shishapresso experience
