Editor's NOTE I attended a conference this summer I had not been to in nine years. I enjoyed it the first time and found it helpful, but I never felt the pull to go back. Reflecting on it now, I know why. I realize I was in a posi- tion in my career at the time where I couldn't truly value the offerings. Now I can—and, boy, did I ever. I loved the event a few months ago and assure you it won't be nine years before I go once again. Have you felt something similar when attending a confer- ence or trade show? I ask because this sentence is the part where I shamelessly invite you to attend the National Ground Water Association's Groundwater Expo and Annual Meeting, December 15-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hopefully, you're among the thousands who go to the Expo every December and would never consider going nine years between shows. I know many of you are like that because we always catch up with each other. I truly enjoy chatting with attendees who find it much easier to recall the Expos they've missed since 1980 because the number is so small. "Let's see; in '87 Joe was born, so I couldn't go and then we had an ice storm in '94 and couldn't get out of the airport in Chicago. Then in 2000 I had my appendix removed, but that's it." I love such tales. But if that is not you, that's okay. Those attendees are indeed rare. If you've been to the Expo, but it has been some time, I urge you to consider attending once again. There are new offerings you have likely never participated in I certainly think could help you professionally, and in turn, help your business. There will be a certificate program available for the first time covering safe prac- tice in the groundwater industry. Attendees who sit in on three sessions covering slips, trips, and falls; materials handling; and avoiding electrical hazards, and then score an 80% on a test will earn a certificate. It can be used to show off your mas- tery of such an important subject to our profession. There is also a water systems primer being done in cooperation with the Water Systems Council. The all-day, in-depth session is a perfect way to enhance the skills of all professionals, whether you're new or a veteran. There will also be an activity center once again in the exhibit hall. This debuted last year and was well received. Here, 30-minute presentations are made and a great way for attendees to interact with presenters. Topics covered include everything from how to obtain and leverage real-time data, to testing water quality using a smart device, and more. It shows you what was once old can feel new—and what was once not right for you can be ideal. I hope to see you in Las Vegas.
