Working and Playing with Color LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, N.Y. is a beloved Hudson Valley vacation destination. This National Historic Landmark was founded by Albert Smiley in 1869 on pristine Lake Mohonk, and is surrounded by thousands of acres of mature forest. Mohonk Mountain House began as a 10-room inn and tavern, but grew to be an iconic family resort that now accommodates 600 guests.
