Irrigation Show 2015 SHOW PREVIEW This fall, Long Beach will have it all: sun, surf, and the latest in irrigation technology and research. From November 9 – 13, the 2015 Irrigation Show & Education Conference will provide a front-seat look at the state of the industry. By day, Irrigation Show attendees can browse hundreds of exhibits to find new products, solutions and suppliers to meet their everyday business needs. By night, attendees can network with other decision makers and industry colleagues at the show's opening- and closing-night celebrations. The education conference is being taken up a notch with a one-of-a-kind research symposium. Co-sponsored by the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers and the Irrigation Association (IA), the 2015 Irrigation Symposium will include a poster session on the show floor and more than 60 sessions on evapotranspiration, ground-based and remote sensing, deficit irrigation, microirrigation, irrigation scheduling and more (see sidebar). The education conference also offers classes for entry-level and experienced irrigation professionals. Attendees can choose from more than 25 classes to master fundamentals of irrigation design, installation and management. The event will include a poster session on the show floor and m ore than 50 peer-reviewed pa- pers with presentations on a wide range of topics in agricultural and landscape irriga- tion, such as: Evapotranspiration G round-based and rem ote sensing for irrigation Spatial irrigation m anagem ent with center pivots D eficit irrigation strategies Irrigation m anagem ent with variable rate irrigation system s M icroirrigation for im proving produc- tion and reducing environm ental concerns Irrigation controllers and sensors Irrigation scheduling and management Sustainability The event is titled "Emerging Technolo- gies for Sustainable Irrigation: A Tribute to the Career of Terry Howell Sr." and recognizes the outstanding contributions of industry pioneer Terry Howell Sr., Ph.D., PE. At the beginning of his career, Howell worked as an assistant professor at both New Mexico State University and Texas A&M before joining the U.S. D epartment of Agri- culture's Agricultural Research Service. He has dedicated more than 34 years of service at federal facilities and spent the vast major- ity of his career at the ARS Conservation and Production Research Laboratory in Bush- land, Texas. ASABE and IA will honor Howell during the symposium's opening-night re- ception on Monday, Nov. 9.
