Proof that the game keeps getting younger and younger: Michaela Morard and Micheala Williams run away with the Women's State Four Ball Championship Michaela Morard and Micheala Williams paired up in last week's eighth an- nual Women's State Four Ball Championship at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear think- ing it "would be fun to play together and that we could do well as a team," Morard said. You could say such as they shot rounds of 63-60–123, for a record-breaking 21-under- par total and a resounding six-shot win. The two teenagers beat defending champions Kathy Hartwiger and Lea Green, who shot 65-64–129, a total that would have won any previous year. This Alabama Golf Association championship featured 36 holes of best ball and concluded on Friday. Hartwiger, Morard and Williams recently n- ished a very commendable tied sixth representing Alabama in the USGA Women's State Team Cham- pionship, with Morard, the youngest player in the eld, nishing a very strong T-12 individually. Morard of Huntsville, is only 13, and she won the Girls State Junior this summer. She also won the individual title in the 6A-7A State High School Championship this year. She is in eighth grade at Huntsville Junior High School. Williams, 17, of Athens, has nished second in the Girls State Junior the last two years (this year by a shot to Morard) and third in 2013, as well as tied second individu- ally in the 2015 6A-7A State High School Champion- ship. She also won an AJGA event earlier this year in St. Louis. She is a senior at Athens High School and will play college golf for the University of Tennessee. What made a special day even more special was the fact that Williams had a hole-in-one on No. 17 using a 9-iron from 115 yards. It was her rst ace. (l-r) Michaela Morard and Micheala Williams hold the Women's State Four Ball Championship trophy they won in record-breaking fashion.
