Topics to be covered include soil pH, irrigation sys- tems, monitoring and management, nutrient manage- ment, and mulching. Updates on cost of production and machine harvesting for fresh market blueberries studies, as well as changes in labor laws, will also be provided. This daylong workshop will be held at the Sue Lombard meeting room on the Central Washington University campus in Ellensburg, Washington. Snacks and lunch will be provided. Nominations for grower and handler positions Cherry nominations N ominations for grower and handler positions on the Washington Cherry Marketing Committee will take place during industry meetings in January. The commit- tee establishes grade, size, and pack regulations for fresh sweet cherries from designated counties in Washington. Nominations for District 2 will take place during the Cherry Institute meeting at the Yakima Convention Center on January 15. Growers whose terms expire this year are Julie Bosma (Pedro Rodriguez, alternate) and Steve Knight (Ken Knight, alternate). Handlers whose terms expire are Chris Falk (Don Gibson, alternate) and Peter Verbrugge (Rob Stewart, alternate). Nominations for District 1 will be held during the North Central Washington Stone Fruit Day at the Wenatchee Convention Center on January 19. Growers whose terms expire this year are Dave Eichelberger (John Senseney, alternate), Lee Gale (Norm Gutzwiler, alter- nate), and Joe Wiggs (Kevin Stennes, alternate.) Among handler positions, the term of Bill Knight (Mike Shannon, alternate) also expires. Positions expire March 31. Pear nominations N ominations for grower and handler positions on the Processed Pear Committee, which is adminis- tered by the Washington State Fruit Commission, will take place during industry meetings in December and January. The committee manages federal marketing order provisions relating to the handling of pears for processing. Nominations for Washington handler positions will take place during the annual Washington State Tree Fruit Association meeting at the Yakima Convention Center on December 7. Handlers whose terms expire this year are Rob Stewart (Peter Verbrugge, first alternative, Rod Matson, 2nd alternate). Nominations for Washington grower positions will be held during the annual North Central Washington Pear Day at the Wenatchee Convention Center on January 20. Growers whose terms expire this year are Andrew Sundquist, (Ed Kenoyer, first alternate, Mike Taylor, sec- ond alternate). Positions expire June 30, 2016.
