All this while the fl ashes popped amongst the spectators who were shooting mass pics to post on social media as quick as you can say "Instagram!" (If they were like me, at the same time wishing they'd brought the biggest fl ashes they had! It was so damn dark… did I mention that?) You had to grope in that dark even to stumble onto a stock Scout 60, fer krissakes! And there was no one from Indian working the crowd to answer questions. Basically, once the razzmatazz was over it was right back to music and dancing! A good time was had… but nothing was learned. That's why I call it a paparazzi party. OK, in all fairness, it was a novel way to introduce a new model. I'm sure Indian fi gured since news about the new machines was posted on the corporate website the day before this little soiree, the writers who really wanted to geek over their new "afford- able" cruiser could get it done there. All the company offered for "specs" at the event was the $8,995 price and that the "60" makes 76 horsepower. Sadly, that makes it obvious to this old timer that the point of the exercise was to sell the sizzle and ignore any sub- stance. In a modern motorcycle culture which does anything but "geek out" over tech specs, this is understandable. Boomers are not the "demo" for this kinda demo. That's fi ne! What's still not fi ne and never will be for me is that the answers to most of the typical and justifi able technical questions regarding the new (and nice) Scout 60 aren't even answered on the website! In a world too full of "me- too" cruisers already, it would be nice to know what really separates this one from the crowd, besides price point and power. What is the bore and stroke of the new Scout 60 anyway? 4 Gary Gray, Product Director for Polaris Motorcycles, introduced the Scout 60 to the waiting crowd The moto-paparazzi was out in full force with fl ashbulbs popping over the unveiling
