CH2M has named Peter Nicol as president of its water business. Nicol succeeds Greg McIntyre, who is over- seeing all global business op- erations, serving as president of Global Business Groups. In his new role, Nicol is re- sponsible for all water activi- ties within CH2M, includ- ing overseeing consulting, pro- gram manage- ment, design, design-build, construction and operations solutions for government, civil, industrial and energy clients. Nicol pre- viously served as CH2M's Global Water Business De- velopment and Client Sector Director in which he was pre- dominately responsible for leading and growing CH2M's international water business. SJE-Rhombus, a manufac- turer of pump control solu- tions for the water and wastewater industry, an- nounced Evergreen Sales as the new manufacturer's rep- resentative for their product line in Northern Illinois. Evergreen Sales is a profes- sional manufacturers' repre- sentative firm with more than 25 years of combined indus- try experience servicing the plumbing supply chain including wholesalers, contractors, home builders, engineers, architects, design- ers, and retailers. McElroy, a manufacturer of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe fusion equip- ment, has added Fortiline Waterworks to its growing network of distributors. For- tiline, headquartered in Con- cord, North Carolina, is one of the largest distributors of underground utility products in the United States. They will now be selling and serv- icing McElroy fusion equip- ment and providing operator training to their customers throughout the Southeast, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Midwest. Outside magazine ranked Ergodyne, a developer of safety products and working gear, the third Best Place to Work out of 100 top compa- nies in America. Each year, Outside recognizes work- places that help their employ- ees achieve ideal work-life balance, encourage employ- ees to lead an active lifestyle, and prioritize giving back to the community. This is the fourth consecutive year Ergodyne has made the list. For the first time ever, Outside divided the list of top 100 companies into five cate- gories: Adventure/Travel, Wellness, Culture, Gear, and Media. Ergodyne was rated number one out of 10 compa- nies included within the Gear category. El Toro Water District was awarded the District Trans- parency Certificate of Excel- lence by the Special District Leadership Foundation in recognition of its excellence in governance and manage- ment of its spe- cial districts, located in Or- ange County, California. In order to receive the award, El Toro Water District demonstrated eight essential governance transparency re- quirements. These included conducting ethics training for all board members, properly conducting open and public meetings, and filing financial transactions and compensa- tion reports to the State Con- troller at the highest levels of compliance. Industry NEWSMAKERS PROMOTION Peter Nichol Robert Hill, El Toro Water District general manager RECOGNITION AWARD BUSINESS GROWTH Former National Ground Water Association President Worth Pickard, owner of Carolina Well & Pump Co. in Sanford, North Carolina, died on November 17, 2015. From humble beginnings as a driller's helper in 1951, Pickard rose to the pinnacle of his profession in 1990 with his selection as presi- dent of the National Water Well Association, later re- named the National Ground Water Association. 2015 NGWA President Richard Thron, MGWC, says Pickard was the em- bodiment of sacrificial serv- ice and kindness to others. "Worth Pickard was al- ways energetic and willing to help out whoever he could, including me. He spoke kindly of everyone and treated everyone well. He certainly was a gentle- man," Thron says. "He also was a great supporter of NGWA. It's a shock to lose a gentleman like that. He was an asset to the profes- sion and Association." From the time he first entered well drilling until his election as NGWA pres- ident, Pickard developed his skills as a well driller. In 1961, he was named a part- ner in Carolina Well & Pump Co., eventually be- coming sole owner. In later years, Pickard's business specialized in drilling industrial and municipal wells. He was elected to the North Carolina Water Well Association Board in 1963, and subsequently elected to two terms as president. A scholarship was named in his honor by the state asso- ciation. Dur- ing this time, he also was elected to the board of the South Atlantic Jubilee, of which he was a founding member, and served as its president in 1993. "A real pioneer in the industry is gone," says NGWA Past President Roger E. Renner, MGWC. "As president of NGWA in 2001, I was invited to the South Atlantic Jubilee Board of Directors break- fast and had the honor to sit next to Worth," Renner adds. "Over the years, we had a chance to become really close friends. They served some sort of por- ridge and I asked Worth what it was. Worth re- sponded, 'Ya damn Yank, don't ya know what grits are?' Very humbling indeed." According to Pickard, among the achievements of which he was most proud was helping to start an NGWA program in 1991 to provide leadership training to young people interested in the groundwater industry. NGWA bestowed two major honors on Pickard— the 2004 Ross L. Oliver Award, and a 1995 NGWA Life Member Award. The Oliver Award is the most prestigious honor given by NGWA for a member who has made outstanding contributions to the ground- water industry. IN MEMORIAM 50 January 2016 WWJ waterwelljournal.com
