34 City Trees 2015 SMA AWARDS Presented at the Denver Conference Luncheon HONORARY MEMBERSHIP Honorary membership is bestowed upon someone who is not a member of SMA, but who has through their service to our profession or our organization earned our gratitude. This year's honoree is well known to many SMA members who are here in Denver this week since she has been an instrumental and gen- erous member of the conference planning team. In appreciation of her service as our local "boots on the ground," the SMA here- by confers honorary membership upon Denver's Urban Forestry Program Manager Sara Davis. LEGACY PROJECT OF THE YEAR This award recognizes a member who has raised awareness, enhanced management, or boosted appreciation of urban trees or green infrastructure. The winning project must demon- strate innovation, partnerships, and engagement. It should also include the contributions of an ISA Certified Municipal Specialist, and promote and implement best management practices that enhance the long-term sustainability of the urban forest. This year's winners are the members of the team that took on the challenge of organizing and presenting the training for ISA Certified Municipal Specialists at the annual ISA Conference Professional Affiliates' Day. These three individuals worked together like a team of chainsaw jugglers to enlighten and delight an audience of students who raved about the quality of the program and their subsequent successes upon taking the specialist exam. What a great contribution to the future of our profession! Please congratulate our Legacy Project winners for 2015: Sam Oludunfe, Gordon Mann, and Steve Shurtz. Outgoing SMA President David Lefcourt (left) and incoming President Jeremy Barrick PRESIDENT'S AWARD OF APPRECIATION Serving as the President of SMA is an honor made possible only through the help and support of many people. Our executive director, our City Trees editor, our webmaster, our board, and our many committees all do tremendous work to keep the SMA working for you. I recognize someone who has been of partic- ular help to me over the past year, Jeremy Barrick, with the President's Award of Appreciation. Jeremy has been an excel- lent vice-president this year, and has offered wise counsel and an ever-ready ear when I needed someone to bounce things off of. I truly appreciate all his help over the last 12 months. Thank you, Jeremy! –David Lefcourt Columbia, Missouri Natural Resources Supervisor Brett O'Brien received the SMA Award of Achievement. AWARD OF ACHIEVEMENT This award is presented to a member who has shown excep- tional commitment to the urban forest resource and/or to the public that we serve. This year, the SMA presents the Award of Achievement to a member who has given generously of his time and talents both to the SMA and to the larger world of urban and community forestry. He is a key member of the editorial review committee and a regular contributor to City Trees magazine. He also has helped lead the charge in his region to battle invasive species like callery pear. For 2015, the Society hereby presents Brett O'Brien with the Award of Achievement.
