22 Oil Prophets must now change their own regulations to conform with the EPA requirements. The EPA is providing states three years to make the changes or risk losing authority to run their own UST programs. States are already beginning the regulatory process to adopt the EPA rule. Tank owners should expect to hear from state program authorities in the coming months regarding what they need to do to come into compliance with the new requirements. It's a good idea not to rely only on hearsay or vendor information regarding your compliance requirements under the new UST rule. There are a lot of nuances to compliance that are easily overlooked. Instead, reach out to your state association and state regulators for assistance and don't leave your compliance efforts until the last minute. Once the deadlines for compliance pass state and federal regulatory authorities will step up enforcement efforts.
