We also engage with schools in areas where vandalism is occurring, involving students in tree planting to culti- vate a sense of ownership and pride among the student population. Then we work hard to establish trees in those areas with vandalism to ensure we outlast the vandals.
What do you wish you had more time for in your job?
JS: I would like to have more time working with schools and community groups to plant trees in reserves to pro- vide shade and all the other benefits that trees offer. I would like to plant more long-lived large shade trees in our parks that will last for generations.
Anything else you want to be sure to share?
JS: I like to meet people and share knowledge and expe- rience. I usually do this at the TREENET symposium in Adelaide each year and really look forward to hearing what other people in the tree industry are up to. As an industry we need to share ideas and experiences to help each other to improve the standing and impact we have on the environment.
