I DA U N I V E R S A L M a rc h -A p r i l 2 0 1 6 7 PRESIDENT'S POST Bob Creighton IDA President 2015-17 Hello IDA Members W ell 2016 has certainly started off with every- thing turned upside down. e Washington DC. New York, Boston area got all the snow on the a er- noon of January 22, 2016. I was departing out of Dulles Airport on the morning of January 22, on a 9:45 fl ight to Toronto. It is a scary sight to be standing at the departing gate seeing your fl ight on time as well as the 10:30 to Montreal and the 12:45 again to Toronto, and then a er that all the fl ights cancelled, cancelled, cancelled, and not a snow fl ake on the ground. I guess, they (Air Canada) new the storm was coming and were not going to send out any more planes. My thoughts dri ed to all the snow plow blade distributors in these areas. Did you have enough plow blade inventory on the ground to meet the demand? Dulles Airport had 28.3" of the white stuff on the ground by Sunday January 24th at 10am. I think likely the problem was just not the wear parts, the blades, but the lack of equipment to handle the snow in an area that normally does not get that much snow. As I said I was fl ying home to Toronto, supposedly part of the Great White North, only to fi nd absolutely no snow on the ground. I am writing this on February 3, 2016 a day which will go into the record books as the warmest day on Record for Toronto. We hit temperatures of 15.5 degree Celsius (60 Fahren- heit). Needless to say we still do not have any snow on the ground. But what we do have is plow blades on the shelves. Perhaps the snow will come and help reduce our overstock situation. e positive news today was that Wiarton Willie saw his shadow and predicted another 6 weeks of winter. For those of you who do not know who Wiarton Willie is, he is an albino weather prognos- ticating ground hog. e most famous ground hog in Canada. Legend has it that he is able to predict the weather and a er seeing his shadow he predicted 6 more weeks of winter. In my fi rst submission to the Universal, while giving my overview of the Miami conven- tion, I gave a detailed account the story of our second speaker giving money away for correct answers. What I neglected to do was remind you of who that gentleman was. I apologize to Mr. Peter Giroux from Lansdowne, Ontario, Canada, for neglecting to mention his name in that fi rst submission. I have to blame this on my "Rooster" quality of impulsive action, in getting the job done and not proof reading my work. You could almost say there was a little "Owl" coming out in me as well, as I do not like making mistakes. ank you again Peter, as you can see I am still referring to the business card hand out on the 4 behavior styles. By the time you read this, I do hope you will also be reading on a regular basis " e Report". IDA has resurrected an old idea that it tried some 6 years ago and is working closely with Multi- briefs to bring you " e Report" on a weekly basis every Tuesday. is newsletter will be linked to the IDA website and in future will have information about our upcoming convention. e Report will also keep you updated on important happenings in our industry. I am sure you will fi nd it an interesting read. Your executive board will be meeting in Dallas on April 25, 2016. Amr Elborai who is your newly elected secretary treasurer has graciously off ered for the second time, to host this meeting at Memo Corporation headquar- ters. Our main focus at this board meeting will be to format a plan for membership growth. Our desire is to create some new tools to help us all grow the member- ship. We are hoping that " e Report" will be one of these tools to assist us in helping IDA expand and grow. We look forward to you the member assisting your board in this membership drive. Your IDA head offi ce has been hard at work getting the 2016 Membership Directory ready for mailing. ere has been lots of movement, name changes, logo's and descriptions from the old directory to the new. ere were 990 changes made to names, addresses, logos and descrip- tions in the directory. You will be receiving this directory in the mail very soon. Once again I remind you that on October 26 through to 29, 2016, we will be headed for a salty piece of land on the shores of the Pacifi c Ocean in Long Beach, California, staying at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach. I am look forward to renewing old acquaintances and meeting new members. Best regards, Bob Creighton President
