EquipmentWorld.com | March 2016 15 EDITOR'S PICK EDITOR'S PICK marketplace | by Lucas Stewart | LucasStewart@randallreilly.com Volvo Construction Equipment has debuted its EC35D compact excavator and ECR40D short swing radius models, both using a 27-horsepower Volvo D1.8A engine that does not require a diesel particulate fi lter. Cab space has increased by 15 percent for both models, and the proportional pilot control joysticks offer enhanced controllability. In-cab features include four attachment-specifi c buttons allowing operators to fi ne tune hydraulic fl ow; servo-hydraulic travel levers and pedals; two adjustable engine speeds for tasks such as grading or lifting; and an electric ISO-pattern change valve that can be switched from the operator's seat. Serviceability improvements include a redesigned back end that gives easy access to hydraulic components and a Volvo-patented see-through fi lter. The fuel tank is located underneath the hood, allowing it to be locked without using a separate key. The machines come standard with an offset boom, a feature that allows them to go parallel to a wall. An angle blade option, handy for land- scaping and utility applications, lets operators quickly backfi ll trenches. Although both machines fi t well into tight spaces, the short tail swing radius ECR40D has a swing post and offset cylinder that stays within the tracks when in an offset position, and the slew and offset movements are controlled simultaneously. Typical applications include demolition and pool building applications, anywhere where contractors need to get in between buildings or other obstacles. The excavators use a universal pin-type grabber- style hydraulic quick coupler, which allows operators to quickly change attachments from the cab, as well as swap out between a regular and front-shoveling bucket position. The machines will be available in the second quarter of this year. Case Tier 4 Final 521F wheel loader Case's new 521F wheel loader incorpo- rates their Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, which allows the 521F to handle dynamic engine loads while running at peak performance without bogging down. Case says it also allows the 521F to achieve 10 percent better fuel economy over loaders featuring cooled exhaust gas recirculation diesel particulate fi ltration solutions. With 131 peak horsepower, the machine provides quick throttle response and high torque. The 22,948-pound wheel loader has a 2.3-cubic-yard bucket capacity and boasts a breakout force of 19,303 pounds. Volvo debuts ED35D, ECR40D compact excavators
