PICKING THE MAJORS CONTEST VIA PRESS RELEASE Magnificent Seven Rise ABOVE CROWD contestants much more evenly split. Still when the dust had settled, the "magnificent seven" had all gotten all possible 44 points. "This is what we have found since starting this contest four years ago," says iG Publisher Jeff Sutherland. BYRON KING The first Picking The Majors contest is now complete and there was some impressive forecasting that simply defies the odds... More than 300 people from across Canada took the time to make their choices between fifteen closely matched pairs of Masters invitiees. The aim here is to decide which of the two players will do better in the tournament. Points are awarded on a sliding scale ranging from one point when a player makes the cut up to fifteen for winning. When the dust had settled, only one of the fifteen pairs (Benard Langer and Sandy Lyle) did not have at least one of their players earn points. And getting every possible point turned out to be critical. In an amazing turn of events, seven of the participants made every possible optimal selection. While this included some, what seemed to be fairly obvious, choices (at least to our well-informed readers where almost 90% picked eventual winner Bubba Watson over Alvaro Quiros for example), other picks were much tougher. Deciding between Aussies Adam Scott and Jason Day or Hunter Mahan over Steve Stricker saw "There seems to be a high degree of golf knowledge among our readers and it shows with this kind of phenomenal picking." Just how phenomenal? If picking randomly, either player A or B, the odds of making all choices correctly to obtain the maximum points available is less than 1 in 10,000. Even you are totally sure of half of the picks, it still would be 1 in a 1,000. Further evidence of their predictive prowess is that one of these seven has actually been a runner-up twice before. Loretta Chan who plays out of Quilchena in Richmond has been "Picking The Majors" since 2009 and has more than proven to have her finger on the pulse of who is going to be hot at the four tournaments a year that define greatness. All seven went into a draw for the grand prize, a Nike VR_S Driver where the winner was Byron King from Wetaskiwin, Alberta. He will also receive a dozen Nike 20XI Golf Balls and a Tour Perforated Hat. The combined value of this prize is over $400. The runner-up Chris Colclough from Port Alberni, BC will also get 1 Dozen Nike 20XI Golf Balls and a Tour Perforated Hat (valued at $75) Inside Golf has also decided to award a dozen of the new technology 20XI balls to the other five of the magnificent seven. "When you look at how these people did, it seemed only fair that we give them recognition for their achievement," concluded Sutherland. GM / Head Golf Professional - Brad Vinnick is very excited about this new direction, "As I have been in the golf industry for over 20 years as a CPGA golf professional I am finding that more and more people are having less and less time to get out and play a round. The new layout is set to open next year but the clubhouse and new restaurant 12 Grill are fully operational. Visit greenbryre.com for more information.
