I DA U N I V E R S A L J u l y -Au g u s t 2 0 1 6 14 t has been a long and exciting journey from a 4-person company operating out of a small wareh ouse to one of the largest heavy equipment dismantlers in the country. This little company was able to overcome the diffi culties associ- ated with any new business, and build a company that became a standard within its industry. H&R Construction Parts and Equipment has been a company evolving since its inception in 1984. Founders Stephen Hansen and Marvin Ruch worked together at a Dresser dealer in Buff alo, NY in the early 80's. During this time, both Stephen and Marvin noticed that there were very few avenues for customers to go to buy parts for their equipment other than the OEM dealer. Seeing an oppor- tunity, the two decided to go out on their own and build a company that would off er equipment owners a quality alternative to OEM parts at a reduced cost. That was the beginning of H&R Construction Parts and Equipment and it remains as one of our core values today. The company was steadily growing from its Buff alo base. Seeing an opportunity to increase this growth, H&R acquired Contractors Service Company in Riverside, California in 2005. This acquisition resulted in obtaining two critical pieces in their growth strategy. It provided the company a footprint in the Southwest United States and Mexico, and it brought an excavator replacement parts product line into its portfolio. It furthered its reach with the opening of a branch in Edmonton, Canada in 2007, giving it a presence in Western Canada and increased coverage in the Northwestern United States. The remaining area H&R Construction Parts targeted was the Southeastern United States. In 2012, the company acquired A COMPANY EVOLVING Crawler Equipment Sales in Lawrenceville, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. With these three branches and their headquarters in Buff alo, New York, H&R Construction Parts was now able to strategically serve its customers with coverage throughout North America. Prior to 2008, the company's new replacement parts portfolio focused on excavators and consisted of 38 components. Excavator fi nal drives made up the majority of the portfolio, along with a few select main hydraulic pumps and swing gearboxes. In 2008, the company made an organizational commitment to further develop their New Parts product portfolio. With a wealth of historical data to analyze, the development was rapid and concise. During develop- ment another commitment was made to be experts in all excavator products developed and to support all their components with repair parts and repair services. Product development sped up and in January of 2016, H&R Construction Parts made a strategic move to create two divisions; Classic Parts and New Parts. The purpose was to allow for each division to focus on developing their specifi c product portfolio and respond to the needs of the customer in a quicker and more precise manner. The Classic Parts Division is directed from the Buff alo branch, with Lawrenceville and Edmonton as support branches. Used and surplus parts are processed through these branches and machines are disman- tled in both Buff alo and Lawrenceville. The Classic Parts Division boasts an inventory of over 140,000 parts and supports the major manufacturers of excavators, wheel loaders, dozers and articulated trucks. The division is supported by 12 salespeople throughout the 3 branches. I
