and other extremely hard formations. In regions where there is shale, limestone, or sandstone the PDC is becoming a more popular bit, which we also repair. WWJ: Can you describe machinery you use on the shop floor to repair bits? Does part of your job include working on the shop floor repairing bits? Kevin: The machinery it takes to make and repair drill bits is either an oxy/ acetylene torch or arc welder, and milling machine. Once the bit has been repaired, we take it to the grinder to shape the repair to look like a new bit. I was on the shop floor for 32 years. My job now consists of taking orders, calling customers, and basic office work. I much prefer the shop floor. WWJ: Lastly, any new develop- ments in different types of bits being manufactured in the future? Kevin: The only new developments I see possibly coming down the road are higher quality diamonds for our PDCs and possibly a better bearing for the tricones.
