Depletion of Aquifers Alerts Companies to Take Active Role in Groundwater Governance A report, "CEO Briefing: Global Depletion of Aquifers" at www.ngwa.org/Media-Center/news/ Documents/ESG-Brief-Aquifers.pdf, has been prepared by the Earth Security Group and extracted from the "Earth Se- curity Index 2016: Business Diplomacy for Sustainable Development." The target audiences are multina- tional corporations and governments. The introduction to the report states the exposure of multinational companies to depleting and degrading groundwater is increasing. The rapid depletion of aquifers poses a risk to one billion people in the world's growing economies. Aquifers are shared across national borders and have the potential to spark conflict. The report states companies must act beyond their own site operations and help im- prove groundwater governance if they are to ensure their sustainable growth. waterwelljournal.com 16 October 2016 WWJ Parsons Drilling Appears on Discovery Channel Reality Television Series Wayne Parsons, drilling manager for Parsons Drilling Inc. in Fallon, Nevada, appeared July 15 on the Discovery Chan- nel reality television series, Homestead Rescue: Nevada Thirst. Parsons, a member of the National Ground Water Associ- ation, is called on to drill a water well for the Kondor family trying to establish their home in the Nevada desert just out- side Lovelock. Parsons was contacted at the end of March and ended up drilling a 130-foot well producing 5 to 7 gpm. He was on the site for five days. "It actually only took one day to drill the well once the camera crew was set and ready to drill," Parsons says. "The challenges would be the coordinating of the logistics and the times with the TV crew to make sure everything was set and ready for if and when we hit water." Parsons Drilling serves northern Nevada and has operated for 38 years. The company has 12 employees. Parsons says the show itself hasn't generated any business for the company, but when he meets new clients, they say "you are driller Wayne." "I thought the experience was very interesting to see the behind the scenes of what goes on to produce a TV show," Parsons says. "Then to watch it on TV and see what they actually showed. It certainly wasn't like anything we had done before!" Parsons joins others in the groundwater industry who have appeared on televi- sion, including NGWA Past President Alan Eades, CWD/PI, CVCLD, on the History Channel's Modern Marvels; NGWA Past President Loyd Watson, MGWC, CVCLD, on Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs; and a host of ground- water professionals on a live hour-long segment on RFD-TV.
