Validation of attendance at all three workshops is necessary to sit for the required fee- based exam Electronic Logging Devices: Complying with the New Federal Law Tuesday, December 6 4:15-5:15 p.m. Federal law requires all commercial motor vehicles manufactured after model year 2000 be outfitted with elec- tronic logging devices by December 17, 2017. Key concerns are not only about the type of devices and cost this law brings to small and medium size busi- ness owners, but what does one do about hybrid fleets? This workshop will review the current Hours of Service re- quirements and the rules governing what ELDs must capture and what pre- ferred data captures are expressed by individual states. This legal operation will require discipline by the business owner and operations manager, but it can be done. Avoiding these types of injuries will save long periods of recuperation and therapy for the employee, as well as fi- nancial loss for the employer. You will learn common best practices for proper lifting and handling of materials in both indoor and outdoor environments—and when the buddy system is an effective preventive measure. Foreign objects on walking surfaces, hazardous weather conditions, and working at heights present daily and unique chal- lenges to those who work in our indus- try since they encompass both indoor and outdoor work environments. You will learn how to recognize these haz- ards, as well as best practice to mitigate them. While solutions in many cases involve a worker's undivided attention, some regulatory requirements may gov- ern the proper precautions.
