This workshop looks at the root causes of fouling which impact the effi- ciency, water quality, and usefulness of potable well systems. Tying together a number of parameters and observations, the course will focus on using this infor- mation to assign a value to the well with regards to maintenance needs. Once an understanding is established, corrective maintenance or replacement can be scheduled. The goal of the information presented is to extend the operational lifespan of existing wells while incorpo- rating valuable information into the de- sign and operation of new well systems. Presenters: Thom Hanna, PG, Johnson Screens; Michael Schnieders, PG, PH-GW, and John Schnieders, Ph.D., Water Systems Engineering Inc. During the past 15 years a time-based approach has been effective at maintaining wells' capacity and quality since deposits in water wells are much more effectively managed by removing them when they are soft and not very extensive. Effec- tive rehabilitation and maintenance can be effective at maintaining peak effi- ciency as well as maintaining more con- sistent water quality and minimizing the detection of total coliforms during sam- pling from pumped water samples. Presenter: Neil Mansuy, Subsurface Technologies Inc. DACUM Codes: DOF1, DOF2, DOF4, DOF5, DOF6, PIF9, GGC Water Well Corrosion—Types, Effects, and Resolutions Thursday, December 8 8–9 a.m. Understanding the aspects of corro- sion potential within a water well envi- ronment is beneficial to the selection of the proper methods of minimizing or eliminating the potential. The workshop will review the various types of corro- sion seen in water wells, identifying how and where they generally occur. The basic causes will be explained for each type of corrosion along with the as- sociated damage or detrimental effects to the operating well system. Presenters: Roger Miller and Eric Duderstadt, Water Systems Engineering Inc. DACUM Codes: DOB1, DOB4, DOF1, DOF2, DOF5, DOF6, DOG2, DOG10, PIC6, PIC7, PIF8, GGC EDUCATIONAL from page 39 waterwelljournal.com 40 October 2016 WWJ The true meaning of leadership is service. — Carter G.
