Most well tank technology is still stuck in the sixties. A S w a n G r o u p C o m p a n y ® f l e x c o n i n d . c o m There have been a lot of advances in well tank design over the past 50 years, yet most tanks are still constructed with 1960's single diaphragm technology. Why don't all well tank manufacturers offer CAD-2? The answer is simple, US Patent #7322488. 1966: Single Action Diaphragm 2016: CAD-2 Diaphragm A I R GAP Industry NEWSLINE Water Systems Council Hails Senate and House Passage of WRDA T he U.S. Senate passed the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 on a vote of 95 to 3 on September 15. The legislation contained the Water Systems Council's top federal priority— the Water Supply Cost Savings Act. On September 28, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5303, its version of WRDA 2016, by a vote of 399 to 25. It included an amendment providing $170 million for drinking water improvements in Flint, Michigan. The Savings Act aims to reduce fed- eral, state, and local costs of providing high quality drinking water to millions of Americans in rural communities by facilitating the use of cost-effective al- ternatives like water well systems. In- cluding the Savings Act in WRDA 2016 marks a fundamental recognition by Congress of the critical role wells and well systems will play in providing affordable, quality drinking water to millions of Americans. The Water Systems Council has been engaged in a multi-year campaign to ed- ucate members of Congress on the im- portance of wells and well systems in meeting America's drinking water chal- lenges—and the vote in the Senate and House show policymakers are listening. Other supporters of the Savings Act include the National Ground Water Association and the Water Quality Association. "The Water Supply Cost Savings Act will help rural and small communities across America significantly lower the total cost of providing clean drinking water to residents as well as provide new jobs," says Steve Anderson, Water Systems Council president and president of Merrill Manufacturing Co. "The fact these communities can realize up to a 75 percent cost savings by using water wells vs. municipal pipeline systems demonstrates we can cost-effectively meet our nation's critical water needs while supporting domestic manufactur- ing and jobs." The House and Senate are in the process of creating the WRDA 2016 Conference Report. The Water Systems Council is working closely with House Transportation and Infrastructure Com- mittee and House Energy and Com- merce Committee members as well as Senate Environment and Public Works Committee members and key committee staff to ensure the Water Supply Cost Savings Act is in the final WRDA 2016 that ultimately lands on the President's desk. International Trade Commission Votes to Impose Duties on Steel Imports The U.S. International Trade Com- mission made an affirmative determina- tion that imports of cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel flat products from sev- eral countries injure or threaten to injure U.S. producers of these products. Together with an affirmative decision on imports of corrosion-resistant steel products in June 2016, the ITC's deci- NEWS continues on page 14 waterwelljournal.com 12 December 2016 WWJ
