SAFETY WATCH Important Inspections Pre-operation inspections are vital to ensuring equipment is in good operating condition. compiled by Therese Dunphy, Editor-in-Chief Inspecting the workplace for potentially hazardous condi- tions is an important part of every equipment operator's job. At a minimum, this includes performing pre- and post-operation inspections of the machine to ensure that the equipment is mechanically sound and in good operating condition. Pre-operation pointers any mechanical or safety defects you find. other components. suppression systems, seat belts, lighting, glass, and wipers. areas where lower speeds are warranted. mobile equipment. communications. AM and check pressure gauges for proper pressure ranges. appropriate amp, volt, and current requirements. gauges in the operator's compartment are within limits. Best practices adequately and demonstrate proficiency in all phases of mobile equipment operation before performing work. maintain control of the equipment while it is in motion. roadways, tracks, grades, clearance, visibility, curves, and traffic.
