It was a big year for big iron, with many equipment introductions focusing on fuel efficiency, productivity, and safety. Top 25 of 2016 by Therese Dunphy, Editor-in-Chief HOW WE MADE OUR CHOICES When we ask readers how we can best help them keep track of changes in the products and services they use to produce aggregates, al- most everyone wants an annual short list of the really important stuff. No wonder. The sheer volume of introductions is overwhelming. Aggregates Manager covers numerous products each year in RollOuts, Supply Lines, and First Look, and offers even more product coverage through the newsletters and online products of the week. So each year, our staff reviews all the product introductions we've covered for the past year to pick out 25 that we believe are worth further review. Our priorities are new concept products, which are rare; new series/new generation products in categories that relate to the aggregates industry; and other rollouts which serve our readers' interests by increasing competition in a product category. We also consider reader engagement through website and social media traffic. Inevitably, we omit deserving products, either because we just didn't understand the significance of the product or because the announc- ing company didn't communicate what was special about the product, or both. In either case, we apologize in advance for these omissions. CONTITECH REAL-TIME BELT WEAR VISIBILITY ContiTech's conveyor belt monitoring process allows users to actually see the belt wear in real time. The ContiAlert has a red bonding layer below the top cover that becomes exposed as soon as the belt is wearing thin and needs to be replaced. The system also has a calculator that tells users how much time is left on the current belt before it needs to be replaced. The patent-pending modular idler frame makes it possible to remove the wing and center roll hangers for simple replacement of idler rolls from one side of the conveyor system. The idler frame is well suited for conveyor systems with limited access, such as elevated systems or those against a wall. The idler frame works with any industry idler roll and is available for belt widths from 18 to 96 inches.
