Hill's re- spect for Summit employees, respect for companies it acquires, respect for local communities in which it operates, and respect for the challenges of a cyclical market have helped propel the young company through its rapid growth. What Hill has accomplished in less than a decade at Summit Materials is impres- sive, but how he has done so is even more noteworthy. His quiet humility and self-deprecation are both refreshing and engaging. "Tom is a huge proponent of humility throughout the Summit organization. As a mentor and a leader, he has instilled in his people that you should always treat ev- eryone with the same level of respect and humility, regardless of whether they are a company president or a foreman on a job. Everyone who is part of Summit has a part to play in its success," says Tony Keenan, Summit Materials senior vice president, fi nance. "You can see this fi rst hand in the personable and warm way he always greets people. He's defi nitely a people person and understands and appreciates the role each person plays in the company and the value they bring to Summit."
