Veterans can receive spe- cific training for one year that will prepare them to be a driver instructor and ultimately a student driver instructor for the Eagan, Minn.-based fleet. They will be able to earn additional pay under the G.I. Bill for their increased skill level. BAYLOR TRUCKING expand- ed its Veterans Recognition Program with a pay increase for employees who have served in the Armed Forces. Over-the-road drivers for the Milan, Ind.- based fleet received a 1 cent-per-mile increase, local drivers earned a $1-per- hour raise, and office associ- ates got a 1 percent salary increase. The companywide pay increase is expected to provide an additional $50,000 to military veterans and additional earnings for new hires. CRETE CARRIER and SHAFFER TRUCKING are giv- ing their national over-the- road drivers a 1-cent-per- practical-mile raise effective Jan. 1. Some regional and dedicated fleets also will receive a pay boost. The Omaha, Neb.-based com- panies cite higher demand from customers and more miles for drivers as the main reasoning behind the pay increase. The jointly owned fleets say miles have been increasing month-over- month and year-over-year during the last four months, and both expect demand to continue throughout 2017. ROADRUNNER TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS changed the name of its Roadrunner LTL subsidiary to Roadrunner Freight to position the division as a preferred cost-effective option for additional varieties of shipments.
