NGWA Actions The new Congress had yet to convene and Trump had yet to be inaugurated at the time of this writing in December, but NGWA had already been working to make sure the priorities of the groundwater professionals—like regulatory reform, workforce development, and science-based decision mak- ing—will be highlighted. NGWA prepared a document for the transition team intro- ducing the Association, offering the expertise of its members as a resource, and highlighting areas NGWA hopes the new administration will focus on. Given the new members in the House and Senate, NGWA is also working to arrange a congressional briefing early this year to ensure congressional staffs are briefed on issues important to the groundwater professions. Lastly, the 2017 NGWA Groundwater Fly-In, March 7-8, will provide another opportunity early in the year to demon- strate the breadth, expertise, and value of groundwater to the American economy. For more information on the Fly-In, visit www.NGWA.org/FlyIn. WWJ Lauren Schapker started with NGWA in November 2014 as the director of government affairs. Prior to joining the Association, she served as director of government and political affairs for the Portland Cement Association and a senior policy adviser for Xenophon Strategies, a firm which provides government relations and public affairs services. Schapker can be reached at lschapker@ngwa.org. Twitter @WaterWellJournl Speak up for groundwater!
