Former University of Alabama golfer Justin Thomas wins again as he takes the SBS Tournament of Champions for his third PGA Tour title Former University of Alabama golfer Justin Thomas is really making a name for himself in the professional game, as his win Sunday in the select- field SBS Tournament of Champions at Kapalua in Maui, Hi. further cemented his standing. He has now ascended to the 12th-ranked player in the world and is a threat to win whenever he tees it up. With three PGA Tour wins in the last 16 months and a power-packed game, the sky seems to be the limit. Thomas' Alabama career was highlighted by being honored with the 2012 Haskins Award and the Nicklaus Award, presented to the National Player of the Year. He was also honored with the Phil Mickelson Award, as the National Freshman of the Year, that same season, becoming the first Alabama player to capture those honors. He helped lead Alabama to the 2013 National Championship, won his first collegiate event and never looked back, garnering a school-record four medalists honors and nine top-10 finishes that season. He turned pro after two years at UA and played the 2014 season on the Web.com Tour, graduating to the PGA Tour in 2015, where he firmly established himself as a regular contender. The 23-year-old hails from Goshen, Ky., where he grew up in the game under the watchful eye of his father, Mike, a long-time PGA club professional. And his grandfather Paul Thomas has been a club professional for over 50 years. Needless to say, he has great respect for the game and an incredibly bright future among the best in the world. His first two PGA Tour wins also came a long way from home (he now lives in Jupiter, Fla.) at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as he has won the last two playings of this PGA Tour event co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour.
