Methodology
The following report examines the results of a survey that was e-mailed to Truckers
News subscribers. The purpose of the survey was to gather respondents' general
perceptions about their job and the challenges they face on the road.
The html survey was sent as a link in an e-mail cover message in April 2016. As an
incentive to complete and return the survey, respondents were offered entry into a
contest in which they could possibly win various cash prizes. A total of 407
respondents submitted completed questionnaires.
A general analysis is provided for all respondents, as well as cross-tabulations based
on the respondents' job description and length of haul. For analysis purposes,
owner-operators with their own authority and those leased or assigned to a carrier
are combined under the title of owner-operator.
