12 INPROFILE BY LISA"LONGBALL" VLOOSWYK FASHION Quagmire Golf Is Redefining FORWARD Quagmire Golf is one of the most fashion forward golf apparel lines in the industry and it is a Canadian Company through and through. Created in 2005 by canuck buddies Geoff Tait and Bobby Pasternak, the brand has grown from humble beginnings to a recent association with a golf icon. The duo's interest in golf goes back a long way. Tait having an affinity for golf since being a kid took the Professional Golf Management program at Humber College. Upon graduation he moved to Australia to study business. It was down under that Tait made his first foray into the textiles industry making and selling pants on Bondi Beach. Tait will tell you he is neither shy of a party nor adventure. His live life to the fullest attitude is evident in how he communicates and the adventures he takes on. Perhaps that is why he and Pasternak became fast friends. Bobby, who also has a "life of the party" reputation, is a graduate of McGill in metropolitan Montreal. He was well known in his university years for his fantastic communication skills and business acumen. Tait and Pasternak met at a fantasy golf camp for teens and hit it off right away. At the camp the two compadres noticed many of the teens were rejecting the typical stuffy styles of old school golf fashion for the young and hip styles of skateboard and surf companies such as Billabong and O'Neil. They realized this was an untapped market. The pair of Canadians set out to change and challenge the trends in golf fashion and the statement it made. They wanted to create clothes that could take you from the beach, to the course to the ever important patio. Their new motto "Not Fit for the Fairway" was truly how they saw life and golf. Nothing stuffy, just feeling cool and casual in your Quagmire clothes. This sentiment not only is reflected in the design with asymmetrical patterns and pockets and unconventional necklines but also in the corporate culture. Take one look at the website (www.quagmiregolf.com) and you will quickly get the sense of their fun-loving, party-like-a-rock-star, throw-caution-to-the-wind- attitude.
