I Europeans to discuss production and marketing ndustry leaders from European apple-producing regions will discuss the economic situation and market trends during Interpoma 2012, an international trade show and congress scheduled for November 15–17 in Bolzano, Italy. Consumer demand for apples has been variable in Europe and has been affected by the economic crisis, according to Georg Kössler, president of the Alto Adige/South Tyrol Agricultural Apple Consortium in northern Italy. This year, however, the European crop is expected to be less than 10 million tons, which has led to some optimism about marketing prospects for the coming season. Kössler said Italy and Germany will remain the major markets for producers in the Alto Adige/South Tyrol region, but new markets are being explored in the Middle East, North Africa, and eastern Europe. Cooperatives in the Alto Adige/South Tyrol region have formed an alliance and are selling their apples in Russia and India under the trademark "From the Italian Alps."
