LISA LONGBALL POWER TIP BY LISA "LONGBALL" VLOOSWYK focus on hitting through the ball and keep swinging. Your arms should be extended down the target line and your weight should transfer to over your front foot in your finish. As I prepare to defend my National Long Drive title I thought it only fitting to share some tips on hitting the ball longer and straighter. These simple tips will help you add distance to your bag and make you aware of power leaks that could be affecting your game. The best part about these tips is they aren't going to be wholesale changes to your swing, just minor adjustments that will increase your ability to hit the ball farther. face height or just above your head. You physically cannot stop the club that quickly if you are accelerating through impact. Often that is why your practice swing is so smooth and effortless. Since there is not a ball half way through your swing you naturally swing though the That leads us to another common problem that results in lack of club head speed and decreased distance, which is shifting your weight backwards on your downswing. Many players finish their swing with their weight on their back foot. This can happen in varying degrees with an extreme example provided in the photo. If you do this you have easily lost 20-30 yards of distance. You need to finish with your weight over your front foot. You should be able to hold your finish in balance until the ball lands and you should be able to pick up your back foot as you hold your finish position. If you can't lift up your back foot while holding your finish you have not properly transferred your weight. Finally, if you want to hit it longer don't think of getting your belt buckle to face the target, but rather think of getting your belt buckle to face past the target. That means as a right handed golfer you want your belt buckle to face left of the target and as a left handed player you want it to face right of your target. Your chest should also be facing in this direction not straight on to the hole. If you can achieve this position you know you have accelerated properly. Lisa is the 7-Time Canadian Long Drive Champion and ranked #2 in the world. She can be reached through her website www.lisalongball.com. Accelerate through impact. Your club head should be moving fastest 3-4 feet PAST the ball. Many players decelerate at impact. A tell-tale sign of deceleration is when your lead arm "chicken wings" out. This move is a massive power leak and will not only impact your ability to hit it far but also will cause errant shots. This is a common problem for many female players. You also know if you have decelerated your swing if your hands finish at your impact zone and follow through to a great finish. Once a ball is "in the way" many players stop swinging at the ball and the swing does not feel as effortless, the shot doesn't turn out as planned and it is difficult to get to the proper finish position. If you stop swinging at the ball you cannot properly complete your golf swing. To get to a great finish, your hands should be finishing at least over your lead ear. To improve your ability to accelerate, 47 ALL IMAGES CREDIT ANTON VLOOSWYK
