FACILITY PROFILE VIA PRESS RELEASE NEVADA GOLF REPORT COMPILED BY IG EDITORS TROON SELECTED TO MANAGE ALIANTE A Rees Jones design with astounding beauty, Rio Secco is a challenging 18-hole layout built to test awestruck golfers of all skill levels. And even when the ball isn't dropping, the panoramic views of the Las Vegas cityscape and the gorgeous estates that sit high atop several of the holes at Rio Secco will provide a welcome distraction. The round starts off leisurely with the short par 4 first hole playing towards the city, but the daunting 489 yard par 4 second hole will quickly get your attention. The rest of the front nine will test your game with all shots in the bag, leading to the tighter and demanding back nine. The course record is 64 shared by five players including PGA Tour stars Tiger Woods and Nick Watney. Opened in 1997, Rio Secco immediately drew national attention and began its take of awards, including Top 10 New Courses by Golf Digest when it opened in 1997 and Top 100 Resort Courses by Golfweek in 2007. Since its beginnings, Rio Secco has been a popular choice for both celebrities and competitive tournament organizers. Tiger Woods' Tiger Jam has been held at Rio Secco, and the nationally Featured on the E! Channel, CNN, and The Korean Golf Channel, T- Mates are young, attractive, ladies who undoubtedly will make the round more enjoyable and fun. But prior to a T-Mate becoming available to the general public, she must complete a rigorous training program including golf history, both the well known and little known facts of the game, golf etiquette, and important course strategies unique to Rio Secco. T-Mates are available on a first-come-first-serve basis so advanced reservations are strongly recommended. In mid August, Troon, a leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing announced it has been selected to manage Aliante Golf Club in North Las Vegas. Designed by Gary Panks and Associates, Aliante is an exciting and challenging course that stretches more than 7,000 yards from the back tees. Its distinct qualities are formed from a natural arroyo that meanders through all but four holes of the golf course, creating elevation changes and dynamic contours throughout. As a result, players can enjoy the challenge of playing from a variety of lies and angles that demand creative shot-making. Two water features highlight the course design, which offers generous landing areas and strategically placed trees that are uncommonly found on most desert-style courses. Aliante Golf Club is located in the Del Webb master community of Aliante. The club also boasts an inviting clubhouse that features a well-appointed golf shop, grille, bar and an event patio with views of the golf course and surrounding mountains. For more information on Aliante Golf Club, call 877.399.4888 or visit www.aliantegolf.com. TPC LAS VEGAS IS A STANDOUT One standout course has to be the TPC layout here located in Summerlin (15 minutes from the Strip). On land originally owned by billionaire (and 2- Handicapper) Howard Hughes, the TPC Las Vegas is a Bobby Weed and Raymond Floyd design that served as the long-time host of the Champions TOUR's Las Vegas Senior Classic. Arguably the best six-hole stretch anywhere culminates with the signature 16th hole. A good tee shot on this longish par 4 will leave a second shot to a green cut into the side of a cliff. It is among the most breathtaking holes you will ever play. televised Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge has been played at Rio Secco every November since 2008. To help you navigate one of the Vegas' toughest courses, guests can reserve a T-Mate caddie for the round. A T-Mate is everything that a traditional caddy is and more. 2012 NEVADA UPDATE Rio Secco is also home to the Butch Harmon School of Golf (see story in the Nevada Golf Report). Green fees here range from $85- $199 depending on the season and day of play. For more information, please go to riosecco.net or call (702) 777-2400. Playing at TPC Las Vegas today offers golfers the chance to experience the same standards of quality and service that are typically reserved for the pros. It starts at a course that weaves through a scenic desert landscape of arroyos and barrancas over several hundred acres. It finishes at the TPC Grille that offers Southwestern inspired cuisine with panoramic views of Red Rock National Park and the 18th fairway. It should come as no surprise that this par 71, 7,063- yard layout has received numerous awards from a four-star rating in Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play," to being ranked among the "Top Ten Best Golf Resorts in the USA" by Condé Nast Traveler. Rates here are from $149 and if you book a golf package at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa, you can enjoy Continued On Next Page 83 ALL IMAGES COURTESY FACILITY EXCEPT WHERE NOTED
