Scene at: Best of Show honors at the annual contest Gloria Ferrer wins hen judges' final votes were tallied at the 2012 West Coast Wine Competition (WCWC), held July 10-12 at the Sonoma Coun- ty Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, Calif., the Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vine- yards 2004 Royal Cuvée sparkling wine from Carneros emerged as the Best of Show winner. The annual competition, pro- duced by Vineyard & Winery Man- agement, showcases winemaking in the western regions of the United States, Canada and Mexico. This year marked the 30th anniversary of WCWC, one of North America's longest-running wine competitions. "The winners express the diver- sity and creativity of winemaking achieved in this part of the world," said Bill Traverso, direc- tor of wine competitions for Vineyard & Winery Management. "These are truly world-class wines." Wines were judged from a field of more than 800 entries. Judges awarded a total of 20 Dou- ble Gold, 66 Gold, 260 Silver and 263 Bronze medals.
