Continued From Page 16 Turf: Through voluntary action by the registrant, the following uses have been discontinued: broadcast turf (i.e., residential yard) as well as residential indoor uses (including pet treatments, treatment of pet quarters, indoor broadcast and spot treatments and mattress applications). The PMRA will continue with the re-evaluation of the remaining uses for malathion. Proposed Decision 05/11/2010: The PMRA is proposing continued registration. Some uses were voluntarily discontinued by registrants. Proposed mitigation for the remaining uses include new/revised label statements (including additional PPE, restrictions on amount of active handled per day, packaging of all malathion wettable products in water soluble packaging, REIs, modification of rates, buffer zones, and additional precautionary statements). MCPA LAWN & TURF (PRESENT AS ACID, AMINE SALT, ESTERS, AND POTASSIUM OR SODIUM SALT) (HERBICIDE) Final Decision 28/04/2008: Acceptable for continued registration. Mitigation measures include new/revised label statements to further protect workers and the environment (includes PPE, REIs, buffer zones, environmental hazards and other statements). MECOPROP (RACEMIC) AND ASSOCIATED SALTS AND ESTERS LAWN & TURF (HERBICIDE) Final Decision 13/05/2004: Phase-out as a result of the PMRA review. Rather than generate the new data that would have been required for racemic mecoprop, the registrants have chosen to discontinue sales of racemic mecoprop and its associated salts and esters, and to reformulate products with a related chemical, mecoprop-p, which is supported by new data. OXYCARBOXIN (FUNGICIDE) Final Decision completed 18/06/2009: Acceptable for continued registration for products containing carbathiin (as a seed treatment) and oxycarboxin (for control of rust on ornamentals grown in enclosed commercial structures). Mitigation for carbathiin includes revised label statements to further protect workers and the environment (including PPE, environmental hazards and other advisory label statements). An REI of 12 hours is required for oxycarboxin. Carbathiin products registered for use as a tree seedling treatment, outdoor ornamentals and residential plantscapes treatment are no longer supported by the registrant and will be discontinued. Carbathiin and oxycarboxin products registered in Canada for use as a turf treatment are no longer supported by the registrant and will be discontinued. PARAQUAT DICHLORIDE (HERBICIDE) Final Decision 29/03/2006: Acceptable for continued registration. Mitigation includes new/revised label statements to further protect workers and the environment (includes PPE, buffer zones and other statements); registrants are required to remove references to use in aquatic non-food sites, forest and woodlots (for conifer control and control of mixed stands of conifers and deciduous brush), industrial and domestic vegetation control non-food WESTERN CANADA TURFGRASS ASSOCIATION 19 sites (including chemical mowing); and turf from the end-use product labels as these uses have been discontinued. In addition, all domestic products for paraquat have been discontinued. PYRETHRINS (INSECTICIDE) Update 20/12/2011: In order to allow for a consistent approach to the risk assessment and risk management for these active ingredients, the PMRA will proceed with the reevaluations of these actives as a "pyrethroid cluster". The outcome of the individual re-evaluations will be reported in future published documents. QUINTOZENE (FUNGICIDE) Final Decision 24/06/2010: The PMRA is granting continued registration for certain uses (ie. cole crops and ornamental bulb dip). Mitigation measures include phase-out of all uses on turf (including residential, commercial, turf farms and golf courses) and all ornamentals (except bulb dip treatment). For remaining uses, new/revised label statements are required to further protect workers and the environment. These include packaging the wettable powder formulation in water soluble packets, additional PPE, REIs and advisory statements to protect non-target sensitive terrestrial and aquatic species. Expiry date of quintozene turf product: 31/12/2010 • Last date of sale by registrants: 31/12/2010 • Last date of sale by retailers: 31/12/2010 • Last date for use of product: 31/12/2010 • Last date for use of quintozene products on turf and ornamentals (except bulb dip treatment) 31/12/2010 • For guidance on disposal, see DIR99-04.
