LEO RIZA Sarasota's R&R Associates is a leading product design and engineering firm providing services that span the entire product development process, including product definition, market analysis, design, engineering, in-house rapid prototyping and overseeing the final design into production. Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Eastern Mediterranean University; M.S. in Industrial Design, Izmir Institute of Technology Inspiration: My parents are both teachers who encouraged my brother, my sister and I to always think outside the box. I constantly look for ways to improve anything and everything, and design and engineering give my imagination free reign to do that. LEO RIZA (left) with brother and partner, Erkan Riza President R&R Associates www.rnrassociates.com Favorite part of the job: Knowing that I'm helping others turn their visions into reality. Best advice: If you want to get something done, don't rely on others to do it. Most anticipated future technology: I would love to see a hovercraft that can be mass-manufactured for the public. It would negate the need for roads and bridges and hopefully be far more fuel efficient using renewable energies. LUKE J. DALY Orlando's Ferrate Treatment Technologies (FTT) owns a worldwide patent portfolio controlling the most powerful, multi-use, environmentally friendly water treatment technology known. This effective and naturally green chemistry is based on a low-cost, supercharged iron molecule known as Ferrate or Iron (VI). Education: B.A. in Biology, St. Thomas University; MBA, Harvard University Career goals: Our mission is to apply this natural chemistry called Ferrate to purify water, improve human health and clean-up industrial contamination. "A-ha" moment: The first time we made two-gallons of Ferrate, when previously no more than a cup full had ever been synthesized. Founder & CEO Ferrate Treatment Technologies www.ferratetreatment.com Best advice: It always takes twice as long as you think and two to four times as much capital to succeed in an entrepreneurial venture. Most anticipated future technology: An inexpensive way to generate power from water. Favorite quote: "Nothing is so powerful, not all the world's armies, than an idea whose time has come." Ferrate's time has come. 46 florida.HIGH.TECH 2012
