German Fest GERMAN FEST has brought music, food and gemutlichkeit to Milwaukee's beau - tiful Maier Festival Park (Summerfest grounds) for 37 years. In 2017, the event adds the excitement of the STIHL® TIM - BERSPORTS® U.S. Pro & Collegiate Champi- onship. Old World culture meets contemporary fun with live music and dance, fireworks, cultural displays, children's activities, food, beer and spirits, shopping, parades and more. Musical favorites include Alex Meixner, whose high-energy performances have made him a Gram - my-nominated mu- sician and producer. The Obenheimer Express Band hails from Alsace and "sets the stage on fire" with rock and roll, ballads, recent hits and oldies. Bands from Wis - consin, Illinois and Minnesota also keep festgoers dancing and singing. "Don't miss" features include local German dance groups per - forming all weekend and German Fest's "living" Glockenspiel. Fireworks light up the skies at 10:30pm Friday and Saturday (sponsored in part by Discovery World). Children's activities include the giant playground, inflatables and the Culture Pavil - ion Passport Program. On Sunday, there is a Children's Fairy Tale Parade at 3:30pm and a Battle of the Mascots soccer scrim - mage at 5pm. More than a dozen mascots compete. In the past, mascots have included Milwau - kee Admirals' Roscoe, UWM's Pounce, Mil- waukee Wave's Brad Beach and Milwaukee Bucks' Bango. The 2017 Culture Pavilion theme is FEATURES EXCITING NEW HIGHLIGHTS, JULY 28-30 SPECIAL ADMISSION OFFERS Friday: $3 admission for all as Military Ap- preciation Day. FREE admission for Veter- ans and FREE admis- sion from 3-5pm for Disabled/Physically Handicapped with one escort on Friday. FREE admission every day for active military personnel and their immediate family members with I.D. FREE admission Sunday for attendees at 10:30am Catholic Mass in the Ameri- can Family Insurance Amphitheater and free admission from 11:30am-noon at the South Gate only.
