AGGREGATES MANAGER / July 2017 7 VIRGINIA NEW YORK Luck Stone purchased 32.86 acres of indus- trial land from Higgerson-Buchanan, which closed its 60-year-old business. According to Virginia Business, the land has access to the N&P Beltline Railroad. Luck Stone plans to use the land, purchased for $2.45 million, to operate a distribution facility. Graymont sold its New York Materials lo- cations to Upstone Materials, a subsidiary of Barrett Industries, the Press-Republican reports. The acquisition includes Graymont locations in Plattsburgh, Keeseville, Lewis, Malone, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, and Potsdam. Those locations now operate under the Upstone Materials name. In announcing the deal, Dennis Luba, Barrett Industries vice president of human resources, told the newspaper that no changes were planned in the workforce at the time, but it is reviewing operations at each of the new locations. "We are looking forward to moving forward with the quality workforce that is there," he said. The acquisition expands the company's foot- print into northeastern New York. Prior to the deal, it operated nine asphalt plants and six aggregate sites in the state. OHIO In another summer swimming incident, Columbus teen Shavon Reid jumped off Graffi tti Cliff in Mar- ion's Quarry Park and drowned. According to The Columbus Dispatch, the public park has been open for more than a decade as an area for hiking and fi shing, but swimming and boating is prohibited. "A lot of people in the community want nature parks and places to go fi sh," Ralph Cumston, a city council member and chairman of the city's parks and recreation committee, told the news- paper. "Even though we target enforcement (to prevent swimming and diving), you can't police it 24 hours a day." OKLAHOMA Two divers exploring a quarry in Lenapah discov- ered fi ve submerged cars in the quarry lake. KRMG reports there is a criminal investigation underway. "The way they were submerged and the years, make, and model of the vehicles have us believing there is some criminal activity involved with them," the sheriff's offi ce said.
