The SMA Awards Committee is seeking nominations for
awards and honors that will be presented at our conference in Tulsa,
Oklahoma on November 14. Our members do great things throughout
the year! Please nominate deserving individuals or organizations for
one or more of the awards listed below.

nomination and rationale for it. Nominations are due Sept. 15th.

Award of Merit – Focus is on advancing the Society's goals
The Award of Merit, the highest honor the Society can bestow, recognizes outstanding meritorious services in advancing the
principals, ideals, and practices of municipal arboriculture and urban forestry, and is presented to a member who has contribut-
ed substantially to the promotion of the Society's goals.
Award of Achievement – Focus is on service to the resource or the public
The Award of Achievement is presented to a member who has clearly advanced the innovative use, and/or maintenance of, and
commitment to, shade trees and urban forests by local government and the public we serve.
Honorary Life Membership – Focus is on cumulative contributions to the Society
Honorary Life Membership shall be granted only to members of the Society who have contributed materially and substantially
to the advancement of municipal arboriculture and urban forestry, and have given unselfishly in their efforts to support and pro-
mote the objectives of the Society over an extended period of time.
Honorary Membership – Focus is on the service of non-members
Honorary Membership for a full year shall be limited to individuals who are not members of the Society, to recognize those who
have shown continued commitment and who have given outstanding service to advancing municipal arboriculture and urban
forestry. Recipients will have shown substantive contributions either through research, field practice, promotion, invention, or
literature.
Legacy Project of the Year Award – Focus is on a specific project and results
The Legacy Project of the Year Award is presented to an agency or organization that, through a unique and innovative project,
program, or partnership, has raised public awareness and appreciation of trees and urban forests. The project must involve a
Certified Municipal Specialist, demonstrate creative and effective partnership between public, private, and/or nonprofit sectors,
engage neighborhood residents, and promote and implement best management practices, including but not limited to interdisci-
plinary cooperation, low maintenance design, and/or biodiversity considerations that enhance the long term sustainability of the
urban forest.
