generous gifts from people like you and the companies you work for. None of this would have been possible without you and others like you. In fact, this year NGWA benefited from the dedication of more than 450 volunteers. The NGWA community of groundwater professionals extends well beyond your place in this world and provides you a view vital for survival in today's economy. Members receive countless opportunities to be introduced to, interact with, and learn from each other. While remaining primarily a North American membership, NGWA's global recognition is at its highest ever, in part due to reaching out to our col- leagues around the world to listen, as well as to share. Trust is a precious commodity. It provides a firm foundation. With honesty, integrity, and the relentless pursuit of improve- ment, we build trust. You, your customers, and society at large have a well- established and trusted organization—the National Ground Water Association—looking out for your interests and theirs. As a result, you can focus on your career, knowing you have a knowledgeable and experienced partner and advocate working to advance your industry, your profession, and you. NGWA does what it does so our members can trust: • The responsible use and protection of groundwater is being continually advocated • All groundwater professionals can understand and leverage their roles and responsibilities in an increasingly global marketplace • The industry and profession are moving forward and will be well positioned to meet the needs of our rapidly changing world. More specifically, NGWA membership ensures you: • Will be able to find excellent products and services you need to enhance your business • Are working in the best possible conditions • Have been introduced to, are familiar with, and have the option of utilizing the best possible skills and practices. We have strived together to deliver on the value proposition in which members invest: "As the leading advocate for the groundwater professions, NGWA serves you, the professional who provides, protects, manages, and remediates groundwater, and those who con- tribute toward those outcomes. NGWA conveniently and promptly delivers a broad and extensive range of resources to help you succeed through relationships, leading-edge and emerging practices, and credible sources of innovative ideas and solutions." We strived to operate NGWA in the interests of the many rather than the few; to treat every customer with respect; to invest your resources prudently; and we relentlessly focused on the NGWA mission of advancing groundwater knowledge. For those who are yet to be convinced of the value of being a part of a national association looking out for your interests, I encourage you to reexamine your choice. There are few instances in your professional life when you can hire dedicated professionals, such as the NGWA staff with whom I have been fortunate to work, for costs as little as annual member dues, as well as to benefit from the voluntary contributions made by your peers. Throughout the 39 years we've worked together—perhaps sometimes in ways we were not always conscious of—to pro- tect public health and safety, our groundwater supplies, and the professions that have made our families secure. As you each look to your futures, I use these pages to invite NGWA members—and yes, even those still contemplating membership—to recommit to protecting public health and groundwater, and to recommit to your own professions. Thirty-nine years. They've each been an honor. WWJ See page 54 for the seven-page feature article on McCray's career at NGWA.
