October 2017 | Overdrive | 69 Fleet News USA TRUCK expanded its outreach efforts to U.S. military veterans by launching its Military Transition Apprenticeship Training Program in cooperation with the U.S. Veterans Administration and the Department of Labor. The program enables eligible veterans to receive Class A commercial driv- er's license training with no upfront costs. They also can start employment at the Van Buren, Arkansas- based truckload company while receiving earned VA benefits of $1,200 per month or more for up to 15 months. By Dean SmallwooD USA TRUCK REACHES OUT TO VETERANS USA Truck's program is for transi- tioning service members eligible for Post 9/11-GI Bill employment training benefits. PAY FORWARD AIR increased its per-mile pay for independent owner-operators in its truck- load expedited and less-than- truckload divisions. Drivers in the Greeneville, Tennessee- based company's TLX division received a 10-cents-per-mile boost, while contractors in the LTL division received a 3-cents- per-mile boost. Also, owner- operators operating more than one truck received Forward Air's tenure rate, up to 5 cents per mile, for their oldest truck. BOYD BROS. TRANSPORTATION announced a 4-cents-per-mile pay increase for all company drivers that includes a $900 weekly pay guarantee. The weekly guaranteed pay also is available to students who graduate from the Clayton, Alabama-based flatbed com- pany's training program. DART TRANSIT announced a 4-cents-per-mile pay increase along major freight lanes and in growing markets. The Eagan, Minnesota-based company said experienced owner-operators can earn up to $156,000 a year. CRST EXPEDITED announced a 15-percent pay increase for new contract student drivers who receive CDL training at the company's North American Driver Training Academy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
