36 | Overdrive | January 2018 CUSTOM RIGS S eventeen-year-old Ethan Madden's custom 1984 Peterbilt 359 has passed now through three family generations and scored a second in the Antique class at the Great American Trucking Show Pride & Polish in August. Madden, of San An- tonio, Texas, put a lot of work into the unit over the last two years after pulling it out of the weeds fi ve years ago. His grand- father ran the truck when it was new in the 1980s, and when he passed, the rig moved on to Ethan's grandmother, then his father, who recently sold his Madden Materials end dump and heavy-haul business. Ethan got his own authority for the purposes of bringing the truck, pow- ered by a Cat 3406B, to its fi rst show this year. It's also part of starting early on his own plans to match a Lufkin end dump to the tractor and go hauling as soon as he can get his intrastate license in July. Ethan bought the dash from 4 State Trucks in Joplin, Missouri, and put the finishing touches on it at his own shop.
