38 | Overdrive | January 2018 CUSTOM RIGS Keeping it in the family The trailer-tandem mudflap hangers feature a "dream-catch" of sorts. "I always dreamed of killing a deer like that," Erick Engbarth says. See more on Erick Engbarth's truck at youtube.com/OverdriveMag in the Custom Rigs playlist. See more on truck at youtube.com/OverdriveMag in Erick Engbarth showed his 2009 Kenworth W900 with his 2015 Utility dry van at Brad Wike's Southern Classic show in September, ordered with logistics posts for interior securement required with many of his loads and an under-van aerodynamic device to make him legal for California's greenhouse gas trailer regulations. Engbarth is the owner of Lincolnton, North Carolina-based one-truck operation Engbarth Trucking. The truck, which sits on a 286-inch wheelbase, is powered by a 600-hp Cummins ISX with an 18-speed and 3:55 rears. Photos by Todd Dills Engbarth and his son, Jacob, also showed a 1953 Case DC farm tractor that's been in the family going back to Jacob's great-grandfather, who bought it new. Jacob says he always wanted to be a truck driver when he came of age, though he's lately taken courses in welding and more at a local college and works at a metal fabrication shop near Lincolnton, where the Engbarths live.
