January 2018 | Overdrive | 47 Fleet News Joplin, Missouri-based CFI announced its Experienced Driver compensation package that pays current and future drivers for their over-the-road experience. Pay starts at 40 cents per mile and increases 1 cent for every full year of experi- ence, up to 45 cents. Once employed, drivers can earn a penny-per-mile increase after every 125,000 miles. The increases continue up to 48 cents, with the final 1-cent increase awarded to drivers who reach one million miles. By Dean SmallwooD CFI PAYING EXTRA FOR EXPERIENCE CFI is giving special consideration to military veterans with driving experience. Charleston, South Carolina- based BULLDOG HIWAY EXPRESS rolled out its Lease Plus program for contracting owner-operators and small fleets. The program includes company-supplied elec- tronic logging devices, weekly settlements, fuel-surcharge reimbursements and flex- ible schedules. Contractors receive 71 percent of the revenue if they use Bulldog's flat or step trailers and 73 percent if they use their own. Monroeville, Alabama-based HORNADY TRANSPORTATION increased per-mile pay for current and new-hire driv- ers. Hornady also announced a weekly $1,000 minimum pay guarantee for company drivers and a $6,000 sign- on bonus for experienced company drivers with one or more years of recent flatbed experience.The bonus will be paid out over 18 months in three-month increments to drivers signing on with the company before the end of January. Sioux City, Iowa-based K&B TRANSPORTATION raised its sign-on bonus to $1,650 to be paid out over a newly hired driver's first three pay- checks. Payout is $900 on the new hire's first check, $500 on the second and $250 on the third.
