SMAers got a sense of Portland's parks by spending time in the iconic Ira Keller Fountain Park with Parks and Recreation Director Mike Abbaté guiding. Then tourgoers saw Portland's municipal Hoyt Arboretum with Curator Martin Nicholson. The 187-acre (76- ha) arboretum was founded in 1928 and has 5,800 specimens. Tourgoers also learned about the City's Green Street Program and viewed an instal- lation. Green Streets in Portland are those that, according to the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, "use vegetated facili- ties to manage stormwater runoff at its source ... A Green Street is a sustainable stormwater strategy that meets regulatory compliance and resource protection goals by using a natural systems approach to manage stormwater, reduce flows, improve water qual- ity and enhance watershed health." www.urban-forestry.com 9
