Because the intelligent excavator can do much of what a dozer has done in the past, that dozer can now work in other areas of the project or on another project. Volvo Dig Assist is a new feature available on the Vol- vo EC220E. Product Manager Matthew McLean describes Dig Assist as "an intuitive control system allowing easy input of job specifi cations and tracking of progress along the way." One goal, says McLean, is to ensure the job is done right the fi rst time. Another is to reduce some site prep, such as staking, by up to 50 per- cent. Overall, Dig Assist can provide up to 25 percent productivity gains. With optional In-Field Design functionality, operators can draw custom digging profi les to their Dig Assist plans from the cab. Side- and rear-view cameras have been stan- dard on Volvo excavators since 2016. Smart View, which uses three cameras to provide a birds-eye view of the machine, is now available. Performance specs are the same as for the non-hybrid SK210LC-10 except that swing torque is 1.5 per- cent lower. Fuel savings with the hybrid can be 40 per- cent compared to the standard.
