March 2018 | Overdrive | 49 Custom Rigs Available for all brands! DieselSpec_OVD1117_PG.indd 1 10/19/17 8:58 AM B en Cadle bagged a second in the Antique class at the Great American Trucking Show last Au- gust with this somewhat recent addition to his small fleet – a 1982 Freightliner cabover he found in Alabama. Its original owner was a Canadian who broke down in Alabama years ago and didn't have the cash or desire to fool with the old truck. Cadle had been searching for a COE and bought it to turn into his personal truck. After spending a year and a half or more working on it, Cadle now hauls about a load a week in it. The COE is powered by its well-preserved original A model Caterpillar. Cadle says the rig also has had its five seconds of fame, from which it garnered its name, "Joy Ride 3" – also the name of a 2014 horror movie in which it appears briefly. 'Joy Ride 3,' once in a movie, gets new life BY TODD DILLS After Ben Cadle bought this 1982 Freightliner cabover, he spent about a year and a half of his spare time on its full rebuild. The truck is its origi- nal color but has some touchups. Other custom work includes the stacks and the bonnet on the air intake. Most of the truck's interior, including its dash, had to be rebuilt. Ben Cadle is the owner of nine-truck fleet Cadle Transport, based in Augusta, Georgia.
