"We feel our club's facilities and courses match up well with any venue. We are work- ing closely with the USGA on all aspects of the championship, " Anthony, a former State Amateur champion and Birmingham Golf As- sociation Hall of Fame member, said. "I feel the club has a responsibility to support competitive amateur golf. We have created a lot of history and tradition and the resulting pride it brings to our membership is special. " He indicated the USGA had not request- ed any changes to either course, but that the rough would be a little higher than normal and some chipping areas would be closely mown to create some run off areas. The championship will be open to the public to watch, free of charge and the Golf Channel will provide daily coverage. This storied club has hosted a record eight Southern Amateurs (including the centennial championship in 2006), nine State Amateurs, nine Women's State Amateurs, and an astounding 67 USGA qualifying events. It is only fit and proper that it finally host a national championship. I'm sure the club and its fine courses will provide a stout test for all the participants. Comments?
