About Thompson Tees Off Here's some background on me I grew up in Wimborne in Dorset in England. I came to the United States in 1989 on a partial golf scholarship to Samford University and played collegiate golf for four years, obtaining an undergraduate degree in Print Journalism in 1993. I have lived in Birmingham ever since. My only sibling is my brother Neil, who also lives in Birmingham and is the Director of Golf Instruction at Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge. Click here to learn more about Neil (www.rtjgolf.com/academy) I was the Editor of GolfSouth Magazine, based in Birmingham, from April 1994 to November 2012, having produced over 100 magazines in 18 years. I was the golf columnist for The Birmingham News from June 1995 to October 2012, having written over 1000 columns in 17 years. I am a freelance writer for various national golf publications. I wrote Shoal Creek: A Pictorial History, The First 20 Years, which was published in 1998. I am the tournament coordinator and cofounder of the Thompson Tees Off Golf Tour (formerly the GolfSouth Magazine Golf Tour), which has been in existence for nine years. Next year's schedule is almost complete and will be posted on Thompson Tees Off very soon. I was the former golf coach at Samford University, including as head women's coach for seven years. My coaching role ended June 2008. I was the Media Relations Coordinator for the Dixie Section of the PGA, 2003-05. I am the Media Liaison for the Alabama Golf Association, 2009-ongoing. I have been a member of the Golf Writers Association of America for 17 years. I am on the Advisory Board for the Lady Legacy Foundation. I was inducted into the Birmingham Golf Association Hall of Fame in May 2009. I wrote From Green Valley to Hoover Country Club: 50 Years of Memories, which was published in 2010. I am the Executive Director of the Birmingham Golf Association, 2011-ongoing. And last, but certainly not least, I am the founder of Thompson Tees Off "Alabama's Golf Insider" weekly e-newsletter all about local golf across Birmingham and Alabama.
