Growing together From its beginning, the Washington Apple Education Foundation has been investing in the continued growth and health of farm communities. Funded and managed by the Washington agricultural industry, the WAEF is a grower supported foundation for managing community investments. WAEF funded community outreach programs offer aid and services to farmworkers and their families. WAEF investment grows educational opportunities at every stage of development: the Ready for Kindergarten early education program at Orondo school district and Toppenish Play and Learn organized by Catholic Family and Child Services. In Yakima La Casa Hogar and Ready by Five received WAEF support for early education preparedness programs. WAEF is helping to expand adult education programs in Chelan and Manson school districts. Friends of Buena Library added an adult ESL course with funding from WAEF. WAEF supports student excellence and unique education opportunities: WAEF provided awards to young scientists at the Mid-Columbia Science Fair and WAEF organized the Central Washington Regional Spelling Bee. In 2012 college scholarship awards were greater than 475,000 dollars - an investment in 187 students raised in fruit growing communities.
