Build A Secure Future NCSF is here to help our members build a secure financial future – one individual and one family at a time. Our goal is to help you become retirement-ready by offering you a portfolio of options, including setting up a traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA). WHY AN IRA? A traditional IRA is a type of individual retirement account that lets your earnings grow tax-deferred. You pay taxes on your funds only when you make withdrawals in retirement. If you're not covered by a retirement plan at work, you can deduct the entire amount of your IRA contribution (up to $5,500 annually, or $6,500 if you're 50 or older) on your income tax return. If you are covered by a retirement plan, your income will determine whether or not your contribution is deductible. You can invest in a traditional IRA no matter how much money you earn. You can begin withdrawing from your account at age 59½. You must begin taking required minimum distributions (RMDs) from your account by April 1 of the calendar year following the year you reach age 70½. A 10% early withdrawal penalty may apply for withdrawals taken prior to age 59½ if no exceptions apply. Penalty-free withdrawals are available for first home purchase and certain college expenses. WHEN IS A GOOD TIME TO START INVESTING IN AN IRA? When you contribute to an IRA, you have many investment options: You can choose any stocks, bonds, or funds you'd like, or you can keep some of the money in cash, CDs, or money market accounts. You can also fund an IRA with an annuity. The younger you are when you open an IRA, the greater your savings potential will be, as you will benefit from compound interest. An IRA is an excellent way to set yourself up for the retirement of your dreams while reducing your taxable income – either now or later. An IRA is also a good option for those who expect to be in the same or lower tax bracket in retirement. Call the sales department to help you determine if an IRA funded with an annuity makes sense for your needs (800) 344-6273. Subject to change. Products/features may not be available in all states.
